A dental restoration or “filling” is used to repair a tooth that is damaged by decay, cracks or fractures. In just one appointment the damaged portion of the tooth will be removed, cleaned, and filled with material to repair the tooth. Traditionally all back tooth fillings were amalgam restorations, a gray colored metal filling that could be polished to a dull shine.
Today, tooth-colored fillings or “composites” can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. We utilize composite restorations in both front and back teeth whenever possible. There are also other dental options that are well-suited for use in the more visible teeth, such as the front teeth when a filling just isn’t good enough.
